Tring - how to get there
By train
Tring railway station is about a mile south-east of Tring in a village called 'Tring Station'. It is served by London Midland running a frequent service between London Euston and Birmingham and Southern Railways running an hourly service between Milton Keynes, Tring Station, Shepherds Bush, Clapham Junction and East Croydon. A connection is available at East Croydon to Gatwick Airport and Brighton on the Southern Railway service. Northbound there are two trains per hour on Mondays to Saturdays (one London Midland and one Southern Railway) between Tring and Milton Keynes and an hourly service on Sundays. Connections are available at Milton Keynes into London Midland and Virgin Train services to Northampton, Crewe, the West Midlands and the North West. Aylesbury and Wendover to the west have railway stations served by Chiltern Railways which run out of London Marylebone. The Chiltern services interconnect with the Metropolitan Line of the London Underground at Amersham and Harrow-on-the-Hill. There is a local bus service between Tring Station and Tring, but it is infrequent except during the morning and evening peak commuting period. There are taxis at the station.
More information about train services and links to company websites can be found on the Transport page.
By bus
Most buses through Tring run along the A4251, (the old A41), joining Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted, Tring and Aylesbury. There is also an hourly service to Luton and Dunstable. The Arriva (Redline) 164 service runs from Leighton Buzzard to Tring. There are practically no direct buses to Chesham or Wendover - you would have to change at Hemel Hempstead or Aylesbury.
More information about bus services can be found here.
By car
The A41 is now dual-carriageway between Tring and the M25, junction 20.
If coming from the Midlands, leave the M40 at juncion 9 - Bicester - and come down the A41 through Aylesbury.
From the west, if you don't fancy the M25 and are a good map reader, there is a good (and scenic) route below the north escarpment of the Chilterns joining Reading, Nettlebed, Watlington, Chinnor, and Wendover.
From the east there is a route from the M1 at junction 11 through Dunstable.
By air
The nearest airport is Luton; the 61 bus runs from Tring to Luton Airport.
Heathrow is fairly close, and there is an air-bus between there and Hemel Hempstead or Watford.
Gatwick is the other side of London, so either travel through London by underground and get the train from Euston or catch the South Central Trains Service to Watford .
Birmingham International is on the Euston-Birmingham line, so you could get a train to Tring, changing at Milton Keynes.
