Council News
Tring Town Council News, January 2010 - this page will be updated regularly; last updated 25 January 2010.
Happy New Year! We started the year with Tring being, temporarily, crippled by snow. The hills made it difficult to negotiate, particularly Mortimer Hill and the High Street outside the Town Council offices.
Colin Jones our Town Warden was this Council's mainstay during this time, and also helped DBC and Herts Highways with information on conditions on the ground. He kept in touch with everyone by phone. He delivered post, made safety checks on the Town Council's properties and helped out generally in the town. We are extremely lucky to have such a resourceful and willing member of staff.
The first big thing for the Town Council to conclude this year is its budget. This is a difficult balance between the need to ensure that our reserves stay healthy and our desire to charge as low as possible council tax. The decision was taken last night and we have opted, again, for a zero increase in council tax. Following an idea put to the Council by the Mayor, the budget includes a proposal to set aside £10,000 for a grant to help the local economy, administered through Tring Together. It has not yet been decided how this money will be spent to the benefit of local businesses; a plan will be developed. Such steps will hopefully contribute to a prosperous future for Tring as we work through the credit crunch.
Council and committee meetings are on Monday evenings at 7.30 p.m. See the notice board outside the Market House or the meetings page of this website for details. You are always very welcome to attend, and almost all meetings have time reserved for the public to speak. You are also welcome to bring up queries with our Town Clerk, Mrs Susan Johnson; please contact her via the Council Staff page.
