Walks In and Around Tring

This page contains a number of walks and cycle routes in and around Tring. Each walk has a leaflet which you can download and print out – the same applies to the suggested cycle routes..

Tring Town Trail

Although largely supersceded by the Tring Heritage Trail featured to the right, the original Tring Town Trail leaflet still describes an interesting walk around the centre of Tring, starting at the Walter Rothschild Zoological Museum. The leaflet includes a map and a description of places of interest in the town.

Tring Heritage Trail

Discover historic Tring with a stroll around the town centre. Pick up the walk leaflet at the Tring Town Council Information Centre in Akeman Street (Mon-Friday 9.30am-3pm, and Saturday 10am-1pm), or at the Tring Local History Museum (currently open on Fridays and Saturdays only), or alternatively download the free app from iTunes or Googleplay. In addition you can follow this link to find the trail.

Countryside walks from Tring

In recent years we’ve published six new walks around and about Tring, all of which start in the Dolphin Square car park, behind Marks and Spencer Simply Food store. (Parking in the Forge car park nearby makes little material difference to the instructions.)

The main cycle route(s) around Tring are captured here: “Cycle routes in and around Tring”  plus: “Two Wheel Tring”

The Chiltern Society produces a range of walks throughout the Chilterns – you can access those close to Tring here: Chiltern Society Walks

Hertfordshire Health Walks also publish a programme of guided walks of up to 90 minutes duration (updated every six months)

There is also a range of further walks, both in and around Tring, and further afield, that can be accessed via “Walking in Hertfordshire”

For lots of local walks (and all around the world), it’s worth visiting: Visorando

We recommend you take an OS map with you. For walking, the best map is the OS Explorer Sheet 181 ‘Chiltern Hills North’ at a scale of 1:25,000. Alternatively, use Landranger map Sheet 165 ‘Aylesbury and Leighton Buzzard’ at a scale of the 1:50,000.
